The Senior Activities at Yu-Ai Kai are designed to provide recreational, educational, social outlets for independent seniors. Volunteer leaders are crucial and play an active role in the establishment and continuation of these activities.

Due to the fact that Yu-Ai Kai offers a weekly Nutritional Program, a majority of the Community Center based activities are offered around this time frame (from 10am to 3pm). This type of scheduling not only allows seniors to participate in an activity that promotes mental activity, it also allows them the opportunity to receive a well balanced meal. Also, a majority of Yu-Ai Kai Senior Activities are taken from traditional Japanese arts and crafts. Some of these classes include:

  • Shigin (Calligraphy)
  • Odori (Dance)
  • Origami (Paper Folding)
  • Qi Gong (Chinese Exercise)
  • Ikebana (Flower Arrangement)
  • Minyo (Folk Singing)
  • Koto
  • Tai Chi Chu'an (Chinese Exercise)

Additional Senior Activities are:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Hula Dance
  • Watercolor painting
  • Dancing (both line dancing and couples ballroom dancing)
  • Handicraft Social Group
  • Ukulele

There are various Senior Activities that take place daily. Most of these Activities are performed in the Yu-Ai Kai building. These Senior Activities include:

  • Bridge
  • Hanafuda (Card game)
  • Go (Japanese Strategy Game)
  • Mah jong (Chinese tile game)

Yu-Ai Kai also offers Senior Activities that take place outside of the Community Center. These Senior Activities are either held annually or take place in the way of trips. These Senior Activities include:

  • Shinnen Kai (New Year's Party)
  • Bonen Kai (End of the Year Party)
  • Trips (these include day trips and long trips throughout the United States)
  • Shopping (grocery)
  • Ohakamairi (Cemetery visit)
