Yu-Ai Kai Capital Campaign

2005 - 2006

Honoring the Legacy, Building for the Future

Our overall goal is to provide a sustainable community senior service center that meets the growing needs of the Japanese/Asian American senior population for the long term. Presently, 21% of the Japanese American population is 65 years and older, twice the national average and 8.1% is 75 years and older, more than one and a half times larger than the national average. The first wave of baby boomers will reach 60 years old in 2006. In order to prepare for and accommodate the ever-growing population of seniors, Yu-Ai Kai must expand our social services, recreational, cultural and health education programs. Our professional staff and volunteers keep current on the emerging needs of new seniors while supporting the oldest of our participants in familiar, traditional ways.

Phase I: Renovate Yu-Ai Kai Senior Center 588 N. 4th Street

  • Renovate and improve our current facility in order to increase our capacity to serve our seniors. Located in the heart of Japantown, San Jose/Silicon Valley, Yu-Ai Kai is the center of senior life in our community.

Phase II: Acquire Property and Develop a Wellness Center at 576 N. 4th Street

  • Purchase and renovate adjacent property and residence for a preventive and health maintenance center to be called: Yu-Ai Kai Wellness Center.

Endowment Goals: Secure the Future

  • Use the capital campaign to build organizational and fund development capacity that will ensure successful endowment building.

  • Launch an endowment to maintain and support our programs and facilities in perpetuity.
